• Firstly measure and double check your measurements.
• What you need to communicate is the opening that you want the gate to fill and the height of the gate.
• Will the gate be swinging off an existing structure or will you require a hinge and latch post?
• Determine which way the gate will be opening – either toward you or away from you – remembering to clearly communicate exactly where you are standing.
• What design will the gate be?
• Are you requiring a metal frame and you are going to use a wood panel or wood pickets?  Or are you requiring a metal tubular or mesh infill?
• What finish are you considering? Do you want the gate galvanized or primed?
• Is it locking? If so, what type of lock do you want?
• Will you require a drop bolt, self closing hinges or any other specific feature?
